Life's Little Moments

Enjoy life’s little moments,
Enjoy them while you can,
For time stops for no one,
Not even the race of man.

One day you’re living, breathing,
Then in a blink you disappear,
And you’ve a life full of regrets,
Of limitations and fear.

So live life to the fullest,
Each day like it’s your last,
Look with hope to the future,
And love to your distant past,

Create a sparkling legacy,
For mankind to remember you by,
And when your earthly life is over,
Your spirit can finally fly.

This is a type of poetry called 'Carpe Diem'. Carpe diem is a Latin expression that means "seize the day", so Carpe diem poems have the theme of living for today. I've used repetition of the word "enjoy" in lines 1 and 2, to make the lines flow better together. I've used personification in the line "time stops for no one", and the line emphasizes how it's useless to struggle against time. There is hyperbole used in the second stanza, just to really drive home the fact to readers that life is shorter than it seems, and it can be over in what feels like a very brief time. The very last line of this poem "your spirit can finally fly" is a type of religious allusion, as it is referring to your spirit 'flying' up to heaven after your death. This poem fits in with my theme because it shows the nature of life.
