Harry Potter where are you?
I’ve searched everywhere, even the loo,
I hope you’re not with Ginny,
She seems like a big ninny,
And one day soon, I know you’ll see it too.
This is a limerick I've written about my life long search for Harry Potter. Limericks are short sometimes bawdy, humorous poems consisting of five lines. Lines 1, 2, and 5 of a Limerick have seven to ten syllables and rhyme with one another. Lines 3 and 4 have five to seven syllables and also rhyme with each other. The word loo in line 2 means washroom in England, which is the place where the Harry Potter series is set. I wrote this poem since it is about a very popular character in a famous series, and I think that most people will at least know who I'm talking about. I've used imagery in line two with "I’ve searched everywhere, even the loo", as it gives people a visual of the places I've searched. Line 2 also has a hyberbole in "I've searched everywhere". This whole poem is a reference to J.K. Rowling's books, and it fits in with my theme because it shows the nature of searches.

This limerick definitely achieves its purpose of entertaining the reader. All can relate to Harry Potter, as it is perhaps the most successful novel series ever. Your rhyming, especially "Ginny" and "ninny", is humorous, contributing to the hilarity of the limerick.
ReplyDeleteSo Ms. Patrick should definitely give you bonus marks for writing about Harry Potter. In fact, that was probably your intention all along, wasn't it!
ReplyDeleteI like how you use the word 'loo' because Harry Potter is from the UK-area. So it fits with the potter-ness. The only thing i would criticize is that when I say the poem out loud to myself, it doesn't seem to have the right rhythm
